Ioanna Lioutsia was born in Thessaloniki, Greece, in 1992. She is a PhD researcher at the Theatre Studies Department of the University of the Peloponnese writing her thesis on Performance Art in the Balkans and its Aesthetic and Political Dimensions (1970-2000). She holds an Integrated Master’s degree in Directing (Theatre Department, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki [AUTh], 2018), a BA in Acting (Contemporary Theatre Drama School, 2017) and a BA in History & Archaeology with a specialization in the History of Art (AUTh, 2014). Throughout her studies she never stopped participating in theatre and dance seminars on various subjects (practice & theory).

She works as a performance artist, actress, director, dramatis and Drama in Education facilitator, mainly conducting and running programmes about immigration and refugees in cooperation with Amnesty International and the Hellenic Theatre & Education Network.  She has also planned and conducted educational theatre programs for children and teenagers that were run by the National Theatre of Northern Greece and by the National Greek Opera. She has also facilitated workshops on Performance Art, Applied Theatre and Sound Theatre online at Hippo Theatre e-school (2020–to date). Moreover, she has instructed two courses on directing and performance art as a teaching assistant at the University of the Peloponnese. More specifically, in Spring semester 2021 she was the graduate student instructor of the course Theatre Directing and Theatre Production, while in Spring semester 2022 she instructed the course Performance and Applied Theatre: Social Theatre, that was held at the Correctional Facility of Tiryns, Greece.

She has written the following books: Wide Vowels and Bitten Consonants (poetry, 2022), 12 short plays for 19 World Days (short theatrical plays for use in primary school, 2021), Silence in two spaces, (poetry, 2019), Arrythmias (poetry, 2016), Conversations on Do(n’t) Major (poetry, 2014) and has translated into Greek two plays by Henrik Ibsen: Norma or A Politician’s Love (2020) and St. John’s Eve (2022). Moreover, she has translated in English kinemo (theatrical theory manifesto by Hippo Theatre Goup, 2022). Poems, as well as articles about theatre and literature, are published in poetry anthologies and magazines.

She speaks English (C2), Italian (B2) and German (A2) and she is learning Serbian and Turkish.
